In art college my major portfolio was an exploration of grief using the maze as a symbolic representation. Mazes have always held a place of mystery, intrigue and magic, appearing from earliest times as rock carvings and paintings. I've always thought of mazes as being a kind of journey, a metaphor for life and death. In this painting, the image is mainly about going into the unknown.
