Sketches & Preparation from The Lathroug
The final 'sketch' before various colour concept were created. Working digitally allows for quicker and easier changes to be made.
Original pencil sketch of Kae Moon with minor digital rendering. Gary had suggested that Tina Arena, a wonderful Australian songstress was the partial inspiration for Kae, particularly in reference to her amazing voice. The final sketch however bares little resemblence to Tina, however I was inspired by Tina's large brown soulful eyes and full lips.
One of a few pencil sketches of Chae'ra. This was created after several hours of taking reference photos, using a cricket bat in place of the sword! As I don't have armour or any weaponry, the leather pants were jeans, the top was a singlet and the rest was imagined.
The angle of Chae'ra's face proved to be an interesting angle. Because the final version is actually quite small (especially when working on canvas) I constantly came back to this version as the photos I'd taken were difficult to work from.
