Willow maiden sketch, waiting for the spaceship & self portrait as an elf
An artist self portrait as an elf (sort of), a Chinese inspired willow maiden and some space art done for March 2013 sketchfest. Sketchfest is a monthly jam where artists are given prompts, and one hour to paint/ draw/ sculpt/ create a piece.
Pencil commissions – female cleric & male adventurer
A pencil sketch commission (something I’m thinking about offering in the future) of a leather armoured female cleric with a mace, and a non-traditional male mage (more a journeyman mage who shuns the robes of office)
Archaeological bard fantasy character
A character commission painting of a female Archaeological bard RPG character (unnamed as of this stage).
Garkun – forest boy
Garkun is the fifth painting in a series of character portraits (Includes Vik, Anahit, Lada & Zabava). He’s a forest boy, having seen many horrors of war, he’s taken to scavenging the forest and battlefields, always followed by a shadowy forest spirit). A watercolour ACEO painting, plus sketch and colour concept.
Art school, is it necessary?
Should I go to art school? Do I need to go to art school to work as an artist/ illustrator?
I’ve seen this question asked a thousand times on-line. I thought I’d write down some thoughts about my personal experiences when I was doing a Bachelor of Fine Arts over 10 years ago. I never got my degree (university politics, plus not wanting to go back and do another 6 months for a piece of paper
).
Zabava painting and sketches
An ACEO watercolour painting (2.5 x 3.5″) of a freckled, red haired young woman with hints of Russian/ Slavic costuming.
Sword’s Call has been released!
The book has finally been released (I did the cover art for it last year). I got my copy last night, all loaded on the ereader! If you like fantasy and romance, please support the author and buy her book!
Lace, Leather, Feathers Fur character concept
So I had so much fun on Purple, I decided to use the same technique again, this time for the topic “Lace, feathers, leather and fur”. Again, 1 hour in Photoshop. This piece was all about the costume. I was influenced by some of the great Asian game art, and I love having the chance to explore outside standard medieval costumes.
Purple character concept
A sketch done for sketchfest (which means the topic is generally a fairly random concept, in this case ‘Purple’, and is painted in under an hour). Because this was a fairly structured way of painting, I was able to capture a few of the steps. Enjoy!
